Homemade Cranberry Juice

If you buy cranberry juice in the grocery store, STOP! Chances are, if you are buying a store-bought version, you are buying a cranberry cocktail or some type of cranberry blend that is filled with extra stuff and definitely not keto-friendly.

Generally, store-bought juices are filled with high fructose corn syrup, filler ingredients, and very little pure cranberry.

Personally, I’m not a huge fan of juice in the morning, I’m more of a coffee gal, however, my kids love juice and I don’t love them starting their day off with a huge glass of sugar.

This cranberry juice recipe is perfect if you are looking to solve that issue and it can be made fresh or in batches and kept in the fridge.

Cranberries: You cannot make cranberry juice without cranberries, I recommend using 4 cups of cranberries, fresh or frozen.

Water: After cranberries, the most important ingredient is water. Depending on how big of a batch you are making the amount of water will change. For this recipe, you will need 4 cups of water.

Natural Sweetener: To give the cranberry juice full flavor and natural sugars, you are going to need, 1 tablespoon orange zest, optional, ยฝ cup low carb sweetener, and ยฝ cup lemon juice, optional.

How to make Sugar free Cranberry Juice at home

Boil. Add cranberries, orange zest, and water to a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring to just a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low.

Simmer. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. The berries will start to pop open and be a little mushy at by this point.

Strain. Strain the berries into a bowl, then transfer the liquid back to the saucepan. I like to double strain, once with a large strainer for the big pieces, then again with a mesh strainer to catch any of the orange zest pieces.

Add sweetener. Add the low-carb sweetener and lemon juice and simmer on medium-low, until the sweetener is fully dissolved.

Cool in fridge. Allow the juice to cool about an hour before pouring it into a ยฝ gallon container (preferably glass) and store in the refrigerator.
