If you’ve made my Keto Dairy-Free Crunchwrap Supreme, then you already know it’s one of my all-time favorite recipes.

It’s cheesy, crunchy, packed with flavor, and honestly tastes like something you’d order at Taco Bell—without the carbs, dairy, or mystery ingredients. It’s also become one of the most popular recipes on Healthy Ambitions for a reason. (Healthy Ambitions)

But let’s be honest.

Some nights I don’t have the energy to fold tortillas into perfect little hexagons and stand over the stove crisping each Crunchwrap.

Some nights I just need dinner on the table.

That’s where these Walking Tacos come in.

They use the exact same taco meat that I make for my Crunchwrap Supreme, all the same toppings, all the same flavors—but they’re ready in a fraction of the time.

In fact, I’d argue we make these even more often than the Crunchwraps.

Why We Love These Walking Tacos

This recipe checks every box:

✓ Low-carb friendly

✓ Dairy-free friendly

✓ Kid-approved

✓ Great for meal prep

✓ Ready in minutes

✓ Easy to customize for every member of the family

The best part is everyone can build their own bowl exactly how they like it.

My son likes extra chips.

I like extra hot sauce.

And everyone ends up happy.

Start with the Taco Meat

The foundation of this recipe is the same taco meat I use in my Crunchwrap Supreme recipe.

I won’t reinvent the wheel because that recipe is already perfect.

Prepare the taco meat exactly as directed in the Crunchwrap recipe and then you’re ready to assemble.

The Best Chip Options

The crunch is what makes a walking taco a walking taco.

If you’re keeping things lower carb, I love using Quest Protein Chips.

They’re crunchy, high in protein, and hold up surprisingly well under the toppings.

If carbs aren’t a concern, traditional corn tortilla chips work perfectly.

You can also make homemade chips using my low-carb tortilla chip recipe if you prefer making everything from scratch.

My Favorite Dairy-Free Swaps

If you’re dairy-free, these are the products I reach for over and over again.

For cheese:

  • Moocho Shreds
  • Daiya Cutting Board Collection Shreds

Those melt the best and have the closest texture to traditional shredded Mexican cheese.

For sour cream:

  • Your favorite dairy-free sour cream alternative

If dairy isn’t an issue for you, regular Mexican blend cheese and sour cream work beautifully here as well.

How to Build the Perfect Walking Taco Bowl

Start with a bowl and add:

  • Taco meat
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Sliced black olives
  • Shredded cheese
  • Sour cream

Then comes my favorite part.

Grab a handful of chips and crush them right over the top.

The combination of the warm taco meat and cold toppings with the crunchy chips is what makes this recipe so satisfying.

Finally, drizzle on your favorite hot sauce.

For us, that’s usually:

  • Taco Bell Hot Sauce
  • Texas Pete

Both are low-calorie, packed with flavor, and add just the right amount of heat.

A Staple in Our House

There are recipes you make once.

There are recipes you save for special occasions.

And then there are recipes that become part of your weekly routine.

These walking tacos fall firmly into that last category.

They’re quick, affordable, easy to customize, and perfect for busy families trying to eat healthier without sacrificing flavor.

If you loved my Crunchwrap Supreme, I have a feeling you’re going to love these just as much.
