If you’ve been around Healthy Ambitions for a while, you know I’m a big believer in using food as a tool for healing—but what you might not know is just how personal that journey has been for me.
This post goes beyond the surface of my “About Me” story and into the deeper layers of how I got here—because I think there’s power in talking about what happens when you really start paying attention to your body. From chronic inflammation to food allergies, hormonal chaos to autoimmune shifts, keto has played a massive role in helping me find stability. But like any real journey, it’s had its highs, lows, and constant evolutions.
And today, I want to share it all with you.

🧠 From Curiosity to Commitment: How My Keto Journey Started
When I first tried keto, I was in a season of frustration—battling weight gain, mood swings, and an overall disconnect between how I looked and how I felt. Like so many people, I was drawn in by the promise of fat loss and mental clarity… and while those things absolutely happened, the real transformation went so much deeper.
Keto gave me a sense of control and stability when my body felt like it was constantly changing.
Over the years, I’ve used keto in three major life stages:
✔️ After hormonal imbalance and stubborn weight gain
✔️ During pregnancy (with the guidance of my healthcare team)
✔️ Now, as I navigate autoimmune conditions and inflammation triggers
And every single season has taught me something new about myself.
🥛 The Day I Ditched Dairy—And My Body Finally Breathed
One of the most pivotal shifts in my healing happened when I realized I had a severe dairy allergy.

For years, I struggled with chronic sinus infections. I was on Zyrtec daily, constantly foggy, and couldn’t figure out why my face was always red and puffy. I even had to wash my hair every day because it felt greasy by noon—and my skin? Inflamed and uncomfortable after every shower.
Then I cut out dairy for three weeks.
Boom.
✔️ Sinus infections—gone.
✔️ No more Zyrtec.
✔️ Skin inflammation reduced dramatically.
✔️ My face calmed down, my scalp balanced out, and my showers stopped feeling like chemical warfare.
When I took it a step further and swapped all my personal care products (body wash, shampoo, face creams) to dairy-free options, I couldn’t believe the results. It’s wild how something we don’t think much about can have such a massive impact on inflammation.
That’s when I started learning this truth: your body has a voice—it’s just whispering until you finally listen.
🔍 Keto Is a Tool—Not a Religion
Let’s be clear: keto isn’t magic. It’s a tool. And tools are meant to be adapted.
Over time, I realized traditional keto wasn’t always the right fit for my body. That’s when I started building allergy-friendly versions of my favorite recipes—keto meals that were dairy-free, egg-free, soy-free, and nut-free… and still totally delicious.
Now? I have two go-to paths I offer depending on where you’re at:

💥 What I Know Now: The Power of Knowing Your Body
You don’t need to follow someone else’s version of keto (or any eating style) to find healing. You just need to learn to tune into your own body.
For me, that means:
- Listening to inflammatory symptoms like puffiness, congestion, or skin reactions
- Honoring what actually makes me feel good—physically and mentally
- Staying flexible and forgiving through seasons of change (hello, autoimmune flare days 🙃)
- Using real food, targeted supplements, and cleaner products to support my system
- Continuing to document and share so you know you’re not doing this alone
I’m still learning. Still tweaking. Still paying attention. But I’ve never felt more empowered to work with my body instead of against it.
