… but when does the workout end?

We’ve all been there. After your workout, you’re just staring at your protein smoothie or protein shake asking yourself, “how am I going to finish all of this?”

Sometimes it feels like such a chore to scarf down a whole smoothie after a workout just to get all that needed (and very necessary) protein.

I get it, you aren’t alone, getting to the gym is a chore in itself … Drinking protein doesn’t need to be hard either.

This keto blueberry protein smoothie takes the work out of your post-workout shake or smoothie. It’s packed with protein, vitamins, minerals, healthy greens, and almond milk making it not only healthy, but something everyone will enjoy, and look forward to drinking after a workout!

Keto Blueberry Protein Smoothie Ingredients

Almond milk: 12 oz of unsweetened almond milk. I prefer the vanilla flavored almond milk for this smoothie but plain works as well.

Protein powder: 1 scoop of protein powder. There are many different protein powders out there for different needs. It’s better if you find one that is clean with low or no sugar. If you’re looking for a brand, I use the Optimum Nutrition (ON) brand.

Cinnamon: ½ to 1 tablespoon of cinnamon. Depending on if you love cinnamon as much as I do, you can go to the higher end of the scale here. If you’re looking for an amazing cinnamon, check out The Saigon Cinnamon at Costco.

Blueberries: ¼ cup of frozen blueberries. Frozen blueberries are preferred for this shake, but fresh blueberries will also work.

Nuts: ¼ cup of pecans or walnuts. If you use a little bit more, that is fine, it will bring out the nut flavor in the shake! But make sure to not go too crazy with the nuts as it will raise the calories.

Greens: Handful of fresh baby spinach or kale. Either is fine here, I tend to go back and forth depending on my mood. If you’re using kale, be careful to not go too heavy with it as it will overpower the other flavors of the shake.

Ice: 3-4 ice cubes. If you don’t care about your shake being cold, you can skip this step. You can also add more ice if you want the shake to be frostier. Be sure to not use too much ice though as that will bog down the blender and you’ll need more liquid, and no rum or tequila is not an acceptable liquid for a protein shake! I mean unless you’re on a Caribbean vacation, then it may be fine!

How To Make A Keto Blueberry Protein Shake

Add. Add all of your ingredients to your favorite blending device of choice. I like to use my trusty Blendtec blender.

Blend: Blend until you get that smoothie smooth texture!

Can You Store Your Keto Blueberry Protein Shake?

It’s best to enjoy this shake right when you make it.

However, if you want to make it in advance for later in the day, that is fine. Just cover it and keep it in the fridge. I would recommend drinking it that day though and not wait another day.

Can You Drink Protein Shakes On A Keto Diet?

Yes, you can absolutely drink protein shakes while sticking to your keto diet!

It is best to use protein powders like the Optimum Nutrition (ON) brand that has no sugar or very low sugar.

Are Protein Shakes A Full Meal?

Protein shakes alone are meant to supplement your diet and make it easier to reach your daily protein intake.

It is fine, if you’re really busy or in a rush, to replace a meal with a protein shake. But, to continually do this is not healthy for you.

However, if you want to make your protein shakes to act as if it is a meal, there are ways to do that.

To get the proper nutrients of a meal you’ll want to add healthy fats. This can be nuts, avocados, coconut oil, or MCT oil. Then you want to low-carb fruits and veggies. You can choose from your favorites, like blueberries, strawberries, avocado (great fruit and fat!), kale, spinach, cucumbers, etc…
