Why This Marinade Works
✅ No Dairy, No Sugar, No Fuss – Just real, pantry-friendly ingredients.
✅ Keto & Low-Carb Friendly – No added sugars or hidden carbs.
✅ Big Flavor in Just 30 Minutes – No need to marinate overnight!
✅ Versatile – Works for steak, chicken, and even fish.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 2 tablespoons coconut aminos (or soy sauce, if not gluten-free)
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
- 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- Optional: 1 teaspoon hot sauce for a spicy kick
How to Make It
1️⃣ Whisk it up – In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, coconut aminos, apple cider vinegar, and Dijon mustard. Whisk until smooth.
2️⃣ Season it – Add garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Give it another good whisk!
3️⃣ Marinate your protein – Place your steak (or chicken/fish) in a shallow dish or large zip-top bag. Pour the marinade over it and seal or cover tightly.
4️⃣ Marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature (or up to 4 hours in the fridge).
5️⃣ Pat dry & cook – Before cooking, pat your meat dry with a paper towel—this helps get a great sear!

How to Marinate Like a Pro
- Zip-Top Bags – My favorite for quick clean-up and even coating.
- Glass Containers – Use a shallow glass dish with a lid if you’re avoiding plastic.
- Silicone Stasher Bags – Reusable and environmentally friendly!
💡 Tip: Flip or move your meat around halfway through marinating to make sure every inch is coated in that delicious marinade!
How to Store Extra Marinade
If you made extra marinade (or want to double the recipe for future meals), here’s how to store it:
- Refrigerator: Store leftover marinade (that hasn’t touched raw meat!) in an airtight jar or container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
- Freezer: Pour it into an ice cube tray, freeze, then pop the cubes into a zip-top bag. When ready to use, thaw and marinate your protein as usual.
🚫 Important: If your marinade has touched raw meat, discard it after use—no saving that batch!
Can I Use This Marinade on Fish or Chicken?
Absolutely! This marinade is incredibly versatile. Here’s how:
- Chicken: Use the same marinade steps as for steak. The flavor works great for grilled or oven-baked chicken.
- Fish: Fish is more delicate, so reduce marinating time to 15–20 minutes to avoid overpowering the fish’s natural flavor.
Cooking Your Marinated Steak
You can cook your marinated steak however you like! My favorites:
- Grill: Sear for 3–4 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting for thickness.
- Cast-Iron Skillet: Heat to medium-high and sear until it reaches your desired doneness.
- Oven: After searing, transfer to a 400°F oven to finish cooking if you prefer.
💡 Remember to let your steak rest for a few minutes before slicing—this keeps it juicy and flavorful!
Serving Ideas
This marinade is so flavorful, it pairs perfectly with all sorts of low-carb sides:
- Roasted Veggies: Like Brussels sprouts, broccoli, or zucchini.
- Cauliflower Rice: A classic keto favorite.
- Simple Salads: Drizzle a little extra olive oil and lemon for an easy side.
